Brooksann Tilia
I was raised in Santa Barbara, California, and graduated high school in 1999. I moved to the Rogue Valley in 2006 and graduated from Southern Oregon University in 2009 with an Associate Degree in Political Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. I have been married to Doug, my high school sweetheart, for 16 years and we have two daughters, ages 14 and 8, who attend New Hope Christian School.
When I found out that New Hope was looking for a high school English teacher, I felt the Lord compelling me to talk to the administration. Since then, I discovered how much I love teaching the students and I'm so happy to be part of the New Hope school community. I love watching God work in the students. Being able to bring my faith into my teaching aligns with my personal beliefs and values. I'm grateful for the opportunity to be a positive influence in the lives of these young people.
As the high school English teacher at New Hope, I am dedicated to helping my students develop their critical thinking skills. I believe that by teaching them how to analyze and interpret the stories and literature we study in class, they will be better equipped to dive deep into the word of God and understand it on a profound level.
In my free time, I love to read. I find that reading helps me to be a more effective teacher and expand my knowledge and understanding of the world around us. George R.R. Martin said it best when he said, "A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one." I hope that by encouraging my students to read I can get them to live a thousand lives and develop their critical thinking skills along the way.
One of my favorite verses is Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it." This verse guides me in my teaching and parenting, and I strive to instill values of hard work, responsibility, and integrity in my students and my own children.
